Dear people who know and love Marlysse R. Simmons:
As most of you know, our fearless friend Marlysse is attending Brooklyn College and just a few credits shy of receiving her Masters in Composition. She has also been working on creating a baby boy who will debut sometime in April. As many also know, our country does not have a great track record with taking care of new mothers, and there is no provision or safety net for freelancing independent contractors who are getting graduate degrees, blazing trails, pursuing creative work, and/or being tiny girl bosses. Every mother and baby deserve time to heal and bond and adjust to a new rhythm of life and all its crazy beauty. Instead of a traditional baby shower, we are asking for donations for Marlysse to have some financial flexibility to take maternity leave this spring. There will be a party to celebrate Marlysse and Rei and to meet the baby boy, Desi, sometime in May. In the meantime, if you would consider giving to support this hard-working, kind, generous and lovable Mom-to-be, you would be doing a good thing! If you have any new or gently-used baby items that you'd like to give or lend, that would be awesome, too.
