In this time of uncertainty and anxiety many are looking for a way to help out in the community. People are also turning to the power of poetry and art to express themselves, to understand, and to be understood. During National Poetry Month (April), both my AP classes and 3 Honors worked closely with Worcester Poet Laureate, Juan Matos, to craft bilingual poems and accompanying art. The anthology will be an electronic book that will be distributed for free, however, in return, we will ask those who are able to donate to do so here. The initial goal is $500 with all funds collected to directly benefit Net of Compassion (a local homelessness group) and the Worcester Together Fund for COVID Relief. The photo you see above is of Richie Gonzalez, director of the Net of Compassion. He is receiving a donation from the class after he shared his oral history. Get your copy of the anthology, which includes a headline poem written by Juan to the brave people on the front lines as well as over 200 pages of bilingual poems and student art. Be well and keep creating.
