I'm excited to share that this summer, I will be participating in the Tanzania Social Innovation program with Operation Groundswell. OG has been redefining volunteering by hosting programs all over the globe that connects activists and backpackers (or Backpackivists if you will) with local grass-roots organizations.
Many of you know that I'm passionate about social innovation and can guess that I'm ecstatic to spend the majority of this program in Moshi, Tanzania - a Social Innovation Hub - partnering with Femme International. Femme International is working to advance the rights of women and girls by providing programs addressing sexual health, menstruation, and feminine hygiene. From Moshi, our team of 15 will be traveling to the village of Ngongongare to support our second local NGO partnership, Jifundishe. I am looking forward to joining them in running entrepreneurship and leadership workshops in collaboration with their women's micro-lending program and other community groups.
I've created this page in hopes that my family and friends will join me in raising $700 USD that will go directly to helping the communities where Femme International and Jifundishe are locally established. Additional funds raised will support me getting to Tanzania (i.e. airfare). Thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to give. Whether it's a donation of $5, $25, $100 or more, it'll mean a lot to these amazing organizations and me.
**Special thanks to my current management team at work for allowing me this opportunity, and to my family and friends who’ve encouraged me to “go for it!” I believe this trip will be filled with learning and I promise to keep you all posted with pictures and blurbs. Thanks for being a part of this!
