Hello everyone, it’s Micajah! I have set up this fund in order to help support my travels of this 2017 season. This summer I will be traveling to Bratislava, Slovakia in order to represent the United States at the U23 ICF Slalom World Championships. I am incredibly excited as this is my first year being selected to go to worlds!

I have set up this fund in order to help offset the large cost of traveling to Europe as well as athlete housing and competition fees.

 

My year so far:

This spring kicked off my second semester of college at UNC Asheville. I am absolutely in love with the life I have begun to mold while attending college. I am able to paddle on world class rivers as well as pursuing my studies as a new media major with a concentration in Photography and Video Production.

On January 14th 2017, I took a bad crash off a 30ft waterfall. Turns out it was worse than first expected as I fractured 3 vertebrae not just 1… I remember waking up the next day not even being able to walk to get breakfast. In addition to that there was so much internal swelling I couldn’t eat more than a bite or two for the next 3 days...

After 4 months of intensive physical therapy and thousands of miles total, driving to and from practice nearly every day after class, (3-4 hours in the car + time on the water; in addition to my studies) It is all beginning to pay off. World Championships have been a dream of mine for as long as I have been kayaking and its finally coming true.

Thank you again for your support and taking the time to hear my story! I look forward to representing my country to the best of my ability.
