August 29th was a year since our lives were completely changed and thrown into a whirlwind. West Nile virus was his diagnosis. Intubation, ventilators, chemical comas, MRI's, paralysis, feeding tubes, a tracheostomy, lost communication abilities, loss of bodily functions, collapsed lungs, pneumonia, learning to walk, talk, eat and breathe on his own again. Widespread pain, weakness, anxiety, depression, PTSD. The love of my life for almost 22 years, sick and I was with him every day. I remember when he called me on the phone, and I heard his voice for the first time in over a month. I wept. So, here we are. Shawn can't work. He has made progress, but washing thoroughly, housework, getting dressed, climbing stairs, etc, requires 2 people. I work full time at Selinsgrove Center and nursing when I get home. He can't watch John by himself because he doesn't have the strength to pick him up. I am coparenting with family, because I can't do it all some days. I don't see my son every day and it kills me. I now have all expenses. If I have to take a day off work I don't get paid. Also, Shawn was denied disability, so we are working on the appeal. The bills are late, the stacks are growing. I feel like a failure because I can't keep up. This "dirty laundry" is our story, and looking for help needs to be our next chapter. I hate asking, but I am stuck. I don't know what else to do that I haven't already tried. Our families and some very special friends have been so generous and kind, but I have exhausted them. I don't know how I can ever repay them as it is. We have wonderful support from our family, friends, and even a group on FB, but they've given so much of themselves already. That's why I come to all of you, kneeling at your feet, asking for help. Thank you all for reading this long plea. I know times are difficult for everyone, and it's summer, so you have fun expenses, and I don't blame you. If you can't help financially, please send some positive energy, prayers, etc, our way. I will take all the help I can get. Thank you for being in our lives. Blessings to all of you! We love you. Love Chris, Shawn, and John
