I thought I'd never be back here, but here I am. Don is healing from a Symes Reduction - his right foot is gone, but we are finally (after four surgeries) moving in the right direction. He is still mostly confined to bed, but we have an appointment next week to start preparing him for a prosthetic.

In the midst of all this, our landlord informed us that we need to move at the end of May. We have a place to go, but not a lot of money to complete the move. We have been navigating the world of Social Security and welfare benefits, but things just keep getting more complicated. Last night the wheel fell off my van when I was driving home from work after midnight.

If you feel you can help, we would be very humbly grateful. Please don't feel any pressure - we're just trying to consider all of our options. Your emotional support is every bit as important to us - some days it is all that keeps this leaky little boat afloat.

Don is getting around pretty well. After his surgery in July, his first check-up with the surgeon led to his being readmitted. This time we both feel confident that he's healing properly and that by this time next week we will at least know when he can return to work. Thanks to your donations, we've been able to fend off the gas company and electric company. I won't kid you: things are scary, but there is an amazing upside in the knowledge Don is getting through this with two feet, and the comfort of hearing from old friends. Thank you! P.S. this photo is a stunt double. Don't foot hasn't been that cute in some time. Or ever.

Don is home and hobbling nicely. I've spent several hours on the phone trying to get his health insurance figured out. It's painful, but I think patience will pay off. If not, I'll just haul him down to the County building with his walker and cry until somebody does something. I'm not proud.
