This fund is being set up for a long time dear friend of mine who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, Christina Tecson.

There is so much I wish I could do for her like comfort her in her time of need and I thought, I'm sure everyone who knows her wishes the same thing!! So, I thought I would put together this page to help raise money for her medical bills.

Thankfully, she is blessed with a great support system, family and medical team at Stanford. Now, with a little help from friends, family and the community, we can help her kick Cancer's Bum!! No contribution is too small as it all helps get us closer to the goal!! AND, Please please please share this page with everyone you know so we can make this goal a reality!

Latest Update

I wanted to update friends and family here on my cancer journey milestones. Thank you for so graciously keeping me in your thoughts and prayers the past several months! My surgery (lumpectomy) on Oct 28 went as well as expected. It seems the chemo worked well as it reduced the size of my main tumor significantly and they were able to easily remove it in surgery. They also took out 9 lymph nodes which later all tested negative for cancer (in contrast to my original biopsy where the lymph node they removed was positive). Since surgery, I am now cancer free! I'll keep my faith and pray that breast cancer does not recur. It seems the stats are with me on that, but I'm also not taking my health for granted.

Fast forward to now, I naturally have some pain and range of motion limitation from surgery but, as far as I know, I've been recovering on pace. Every day I feel like I am able to comfortably stretch my arm more, and the aches and pains are nothing I cannot tolerate. I started 6.5 weeks of daily Mon-Fri radiation on Dec 8th that continued until the end of January. I experienced the usual fatigue and "sunburn," redness, swelling, and sometimes itchiness to the radiated area. The biggest challenge seemed to be the inconvenience of making the time to drive to the hospital every morning. But the radiation department had a nice Keurig coffee maker there so at least I got a nice cup of coffee with my daily dose of radiation! lol

Because I needed to go to the hospital everyday I stayed here for the holidays solo. I was actually very excited to experience my first Christmas in California since I've moved here 15 years ago. I spent much of the time resting and was glad to simply relax, reflect, and start off 2016 rested and refreshed. In lieu of spending the holidays on my own, I am now in Florida visiting my family here. It's been nice spending time with my two young nephews and niece who I have not seen in over a year since before my cancer diagnosis. Plus, my other brother and sister-in-law flew in for the first time in a few years we've all been together for a vacation.

So I am cancer free but now live with the risk of recurrence. I'm going to try to flip the switch to the positive side of that thought and let it set a fire under me to not wait to do all the things I love and to live life with more purpose. I'd like to share a few of my thoughts when radiation finally ended: Eight months later . . . breast cancer treatments are finally over. Time to move on with life (and pray it doesn't come back). They say cancer changes you. Now I understand why. Life is short. You never know if your time is limited on this earth. Make the best of it. Strive to your potential. Contribute to your community. Spread love everywhere you go. It shouldn’t take living with cancer to make you understand that you should live your life with a purpose. Relax and be at peace, but don’t be frivolous with your time. Make every day count. Understand that you are leaving behind a legacy. Even if you don’t think you are, you will someday. Make it a good story.

Friends and Family, Have a beautiful and blessed Valentine's Day! If I have not said it enough, thank you for the prayers and support. I have been overwhelmed with kind gestures of flowers, money, cards, food and simple thoughtfulness. This has kept my spirits high and enabled me to relax a little more and mentally focus on my health. Thank you for your love. Now that my faith has been tested, my spirit feels renewed, and I've gained a greater appreciation for life, I will be doing my best to spread love throughout my life! Love, Christina

I am more than half way through chemo and kicking cancer's butt! My one setback so far was that my white blood cells were getting too low with my first chemo drug so they skipped a treatment in mid-July and switched me to the phase two chemo drug early. They also reduced the dose so my immune system would handle it better, increased the frequency of infusions from every two weeks to every week, and prolonged my chemo for an extra month. I do injections at home four days per week to increase my WBC's. The drug I am on now gives me minor neuropathy in my hands and feet but overall I can't complain. This drug does not tire me out like the first one so my energy level keeps me semi-active and social and very optimistic. I even enjoyed a girls' night out wearing the blonde wig my cousin lent me! I actually don't mind wearing wigs all the time (low maintenance), but I do miss having eye brows and eye lashes.

Now I only have 6 more weekly chemo treatments, then will have surgery probably end of October, followed by 5 weeks of daily radiation in November and December. From a visual and physical perspective my tumor seems to be getting smaller and softer so hopefully surgery to remove the lump will be easy and successful. The journey continues but I am optimistic everything will fair well. I think of cancer as a temporary intrusion on my life and I look forward to counting my blessings by Christmas when I expect to be cancer free. I thank everyone tremendously for their support, prayers, and generosity to get me through it all! I'm especially grateful to anyone who has supported me through this fund my friend set up. I'm using the money to pay for a cancer-related procedure not covered by my health insurance. And since I'm not working as much, having this extra cash helps me to relax more and focus on my health. Thank you!
