My friend is 27 years old and in October of 2014 she shattered her ankle. She had an emergency surgery and had 8 screws a plate and a tight rope put into her ankle. After her surgery her incision would not completely heal. In April of 2015 she was in a car accident with a friend. Her ankle kept swelling and the incision would open up a little more each time a knot would come up on her incision. She finally got into her Doctor's office in June and they scheduled her for another emergency surgery because she had an infection in her ankle. When they went in to remove the hardware it was found that she had infection in her blood and her bones. She has had a piccline in since then. A picc line is:
A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC or PIC line) is a form of intravenous access that can be used for a prolonged period of time (chemotherapy regimens, extended antibiotic therapy, or total parenteral nutrition). It has been 6 weeks and at this point her white blood cell count is still extremely high. They are running more test and still giving her treatments daily of anti biotics through a picc line to get the infection gone. She do not have any medical insurance nor is she employed. She is still in the process of getting disability due to the fact she can not work with the picc line in her arm. The expenses of having to go back and forth to the hospital daily for treatment and to doctors appointments are really stressful. She has missed 10 treatments so far due to not having tranportation. She still has prescriptions at the pharmacy she can not afford to pick up. On top of everything she just lost her home, she have been staying with someone for a couple of weeks but have to be moved out in 7 days and she does not have the funds to do all of this. I started a PlumFund account in hopes that I can get some assistance with these expenses for her. Thank you for any donation and even more importantly thank you for taking the time to read her story!
