I was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS). It's a very rare degenerative neurological disease that's related to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). I will describe my symptoms by how they have affected me personally: extreme muscle spasticity and stiffness, emotional lability, speech impairment, bladder urgency, swallowing difficulty, impairment of fine motor skills, and impaired balance. I can no longer walk unassisted.
To date, I have bills from Marshfield Clinic, Froedert, Mayo Clinic, UW-Hopsital, UW-Clinic, and in-home therapy bills for MRIs, blood work, speech therapy, physical therapy, and general visits. The fear of mounting medical bills makes it impossible for me to get the care I need and to enjoy the things I am able to do. I currently expend the majority of my financial resources on health care. It's tough to enjoy retirement and to maintain my current abilities without proper care. I want to enjoy retirement, not survive it. I'm currently borrowing a scooter but would like to purchase my own chair so I can get around and get some sunshine in the summer! Insurance coverage has been hit or miss. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated and not taken for granted. I will use all donated funds to pay medical debts, pay for continued care, purchase assistive devices, and pay to travel to clinics for experimental/progressive treatments. I want to focus my energy on healing.
Asking for help isn't easy. I humbly ask all of you friends - if you have a few dollars you could spare it would be greatly appreciated. No donation is too small. Please share this with your friends also. Thank you all so much!!
