Started by: Jessamy Baxter
I am JESSAMY sister of Natasha Baxter. My sister is a 31 year old woman who had her foot broken by a guy at a concert 8 months ago. Her injuries were severe enough to have to undergo surgery for plates and pins, which yes I know is normal with badly broken bones. Unfortunately she was referred to a surgeon who was not only inattentive, but also neglected her recovery at every turn. The surgical site was covered by an adhesive that she was allergic to. It ate through her skin and caused an infection that he denied. He also placed the plate over a major nerve in her foot which caused her to develop an incurable disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type II or RSD. Since diagnosed she has been in terrible pain. She has abnormal constant swelling in her foot that has her unable to wear shoes properly and walk properly. The disease attacks the sympathetic nervous system, so she has a constant fever, irregular heart beat, insomnia, vomiting, and panic attacks...the list goes on. She can barely function without being in misery. She is also allergic to all medications they can give for pain and nerve management. Because of her surgeon's delay in properly diagnosing her, the spinal nerve blocks she's been getting from the pain clinic are no longer working. she cannot find any other surgeon willing to remove the hardware in her foot and to add insult to injury, it was determined that she also has torn tendons in her ankle that were never treated. She is in desperate need of a treatment called Scrambler Therapy and we are lucky enough to have to have a certified clinic outside of Chicago, as there are only a few in the United States. This may be her only chance for remission of the disease, as after the first year, it may be too late to reverse the damage. So far, all of the doctors and procedures she has already had to undergo to help her has been financially devastating on her. Her insurance will not cover many of the treatments proven to work. This disease and all the medical bills are just overwhelming. If she doesn't have this treatment done we don't know where else to turn so anything you are willing to give would be greatly appreciated as she goes along in her journey to get help so she isn't in constant chronic pain.
