MrB is our friendly alpaca! He is a SELR rescue. He has recently had major medical needs.

MrB was found lying on his side, unable to even cush when we checked the barn one evening. We rushed him to the UT Vet Hospital where he was treated for ticks and M-worm.

After spending over a week in the hospital, undergoing float and treadmill therapy, he came home to continue his therapy at his own farm.

Please consider helping out with his hospital expenses and on going rehabilitation.

Thank you!

Latest Update

Eight weeks out now and today we let Mr. B back into the herd. The herd-mates seemed really glad to see him. Well, all except Boyd--he liked being the only alpaca in the group! He'll just have to learn to adjust to Mr. B being back. Mr. B still hobbles quite a bit , but we haven't had to help him up in anyway for over two weeks. Such a good alpaca!

Mr. B is doing okay. Today he seemed to not be using either of his back legs normally, but that may be stiffness from the cool weather this morning. He does get stuck lying on his right side (his left side is the weak one) and cannot get himself into a cush in order to stand up. We still have to check on his whereabouts every two - three hours to make sure he's not stuck on his right side somewhere. He tries to get back to a cush, but his left side just isn't strong enough to pull himself back upright. Luckily this is only occasionally that we have to gently help him to roll upright. Poor little guy!

Mr. B is getting stronger! Last night he somehow got out of his stall/paddock area and was out in the pasture with everyone else, happily munching on the lush grasses. He galloped away as we tried to get him back in the barn for his medicine. Can get up and down by himself easily and we will soon let him back to gallivant with his herdmates!

Mr. B has not had to have any assistance to get up and moving for a week! He gets up pretty quickly when we approach, as is normal for an alpaca. He does still drag his left front leg a bit, and wobbles as he walks, but he is eating good and seems in better spirits!

Mr.B stood up! We went to get him up around suppertime and he stood up and hobbled away from us. Typical alpaca "stay at least arms length" distance. So glad he's getting stronger. Thank you all!

Mr. B seems a bit stronger today. He worries about his herd mates being in the front pasture where he can only see them at a distance. He likes it better when they are near him in the barn. He stood outside for several hours last night looking longingly at the rest of the herd munching in a different pasture. Today he walked around a bit in his own little paddock and even had a bit of fun with the garden hose. His left front leg seems to still be dragging some, but I believe he's getting better. Still have to help him get up every few hours (if he's even cushed since his last assist!) and walk about. He's eating and drinking well. Thank you all for sharing and for your support!

Brought B and Red home yesterday. Mr.B was very excited and tried to run out across the pasture to his mates! Poor baby hobbled a few steps then just looked longingly around.    We hobbled him back to the barn to rest after that sudden burst of FREEDOM!!    Have to help Mr.B stand up four times a day and walk him around. He can hobble around once we help him up. Goes to his food,  etc, by himself once he's up.    Still on Prednisone, but weaning him off the next several days.    They treated for M-worm, but didn't test for it, since the tests can be inconclusive at best. Might as well treat him!
