Emergency Vet Fund for Othello

Summary: Autumn and Nathaniel adopted a 1 year old puppy. He escaped from the yard one day and got hit by a car. He underwent surgery and extensive vet care. Their little family needs your help!

Hi guys, it’s me, Othello. I wish I could reach through the computer and give you a nice sweet kiss or a chilly nose nuzzle, but unfortunately I can’t quite reach my long nose out of my cone at the moment. My doctor says that it’s to keep my leg safe from infection and “further injury”, but I think he just wanted to give me a cool necklace that gives me lots of attention whenever I go outside. How did I get like this? Well… let me start at the beginning.

I don’t remember much about my early months, because there’s not too much to remember. My old owners told me that they wanted a guard dog, but that I was a dud. They named me “Dozer” and when I failed to “doze” anyone, they chained me outside, left me there day in and day out, and then moved away. Eventually, one of my neighbors heard my grumbly belly, rescued me, and took me to Metro Nashville Animal Control.

When I arrived, I was very skinny. Metro Nashville Animal Control took great care of me while I was there and I patiently waited. One day a lady named Autumn walked in. It was love at first sight for both of us. She later told me that she adopted me because I was tall, dark, and handsome. I liked her because she smelled like Publix subs, books, and adventure.

She took me home that same day and named me Othello because of my regal appearance! Luckily, I liked her boyfriend as much as I liked her and the three of us went on many adventures together. I was so happy to have a home.

However, on one dark stormy day while romping outside, I jumped a very tall fence and was promptly hit by a car. You see, I have a flair for the dramatic, just like my namesake. My puppy-dad, Nate, rushed me to my vet who stabilized me and then had to send me on to the UF Small Animal Hospital because I was so badly hurt. They said that I had a terrible break in my leg. I had to have a surgery that lasted for 4 hours. The doctors installed a metal bridge that goes from my knee to my ankle. They had to do a bone graft so that I can regrow a part of the bone that they could not save. I did not like the sound of that, but it had to be done.

Even though it was very expensive, my puppy-parents knew that the surgery needed to happen. And here I am, good as new! Well, almost… I still hurt and the doctors tell me that it will be a long time before I am back to my old playful antics. I will need a lot of help as I heal and require many more vet visits.

Because of this, my puppy-parents are faced with a very large vet bill for the surgery, medications, bandage changes, x-rays, my cool cone necklace, and more. My parents are both full-time students and I know that this is a struggle for them financially. They really need help supporting me through my injury.
