Hello, my name is Anette. My husband Randy and I have a very sweet Boston Terrier named Lily. She is not quite a year old yet. We were so excited to bring her home and she has been such a joy in our lives. She is full of energy and warms the hearts of everyone she meets. We own a small business and we bring her with us every day. She greets everyone that walks in and never fails to get a smile in return. A few months ago we noticed she had developed a slight limp in one of her back legs, this limp continued to get worse and worse and has now manifested in her other back leg . She tries to run around with her big brother, another Boston Terrier named Brutus, but she'll lose the ability to use those legs and will fall down. It is down right heart breaking to watch. We took her to our local vet who advised us to take her to The Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota for a consultation. He told us that this is a problem that happens in small dogs, and that she will most likely need corrective surgery. We took her to her consultation and were told that she did in fact need surgery. We were so distraught. Our worst fears had been confirmed. Our poor little girl needs surgery. We were told that she has a condition known as Patellar luxation. This is where the knee cap rides outside the femoral groove when the knee is flexed. In other words her knee cap is constantly popping in and out of place. There are four stages to this condition. Lily is in stage 3 on her right leg and stage 4 on her left. This means that her left knee cap is now stuck out of place and will not pop back in. Her right knee is still popping in and out and each time this happens it causes her severe pain. Surgery will need to be performed to pin the knee cap back in place, and to prevent her right leg from getting any worse. If left untreated she will develop arthritis , eventually leading towards her ligaments tearing. Ultimately she will lose her ability to walk. This surgery along with the medication she will need for her recovery is 3600 dollars. They cannot perform the surgery without at least half for a deposit. Our hearts dropped. We simply cannot afford this but refuse to let our Lily suffer anymore. It is unbearable to watch. We feel helpless watching her struggle to walk, and not know how to be able to fix her. We are asking anyone, if you could please help us in any way, help her live a normal healthy life. We want to see her be able to run and play with her brother and not fall down in pain. She's a sweet loving puppy who deserves a shot at a better, less painful life.
