Thank you for visiting my campaign, which hopefully will allow myself and my family to attend the first total solar eclipse visible in the continental United States in nearly 40 years. The eclipse takes place on August 21st, 2017, and the place of longest totality will be near the South-most part of Illinois, a few hours drive from where we live, in the Quad Cities.
This is an event I have been planning for a number of years, because I am such a great fan of astronomy, and I very much want to share this unique experience with my sister, son & nephew and mother. I am also an aspiring amateur astronomer and looking forward to encouraging my 5 year old nephew to also be fascinated by the celestial landscape.
But my health issues have put our financial situation in such a place that we can't even afford a couple tanks of gas and hotel room. In addition, my computer - from where I do most of my work and which is integral to my ability to provide any financial support for my family - is in very bad shape and needs to have its system board replaced. This means even if I came up with the money for the trip somehow, I would have to use it for household needs for anyway. As simple a trip as this would be, it is currently beyond our means.
So I have decided to reach out to the community and see if anyone can offer assistance. Any small donation would be greatly appreciated. This is such a remarkably rare and awesome (which I don't mean in the slang sense) event taking place, and I will be quite disappointed if timing and my health issues interfere with our attending. So please contribute if you can, and regardless share this campaign on social media.
